Description

Arthur Vandyk Antiques are delighted to present for sale this beautifully hand painted Royal Worcester large cabinet plate with a gilt rim of cottage at "Wick" which is signed A. Wallcraft in the lower right hand corner. The plate depicts a charming rural English scene of Wick Cottage in Wiltshire, England framed by two tall leafy trees. The composition and painterly skill is superb with the path drawing the viewer into the eloquent scene, a beautiful picture indeed.

Background and History

The plate's picture is inspired by a painting by Helen Allingham of Wick Cottage circa 1900. Wick cottage in Wiltshire was destroyed by fire in the 1960s, so this portrayal of the Cottage is an important record of how it looked.
