Arthur Vandyk Antiques are delighted to offer for sale this extremely ornate late Victorian large Art Nouveau silver backed hair brush, by the highly collectible Birmingham silversmith, Thomas Hayes.

This fine quality large silver brush has a an Art Nouveau swirl and foliate design, with an asymmetrical cartouche embellished with an acanthus leaf border. The brush is monogrammed with the initial "E" in stylised script.

Condition report

In excellent condition considering it age of 128 years with age related tarnish marks, some of which are heavier, the brush was very heavily tarnished due to prolonged storage and could do with a deep clean. There are minor age related surface scratches and a couple of tiny pin prick sized deep scratches at the rear, which are only noticeable upon close inspection. Additionally, there is a microscopic manufacturing split, (where the silver meets the wooden brush), otherwise a fabulous example of Art Nouveau antique silverware.
