Hand Decorated Boxwood St Petersburg Egg.
The egg & stand are turned in boxwood & are then hand decorated with a Madonna & child to the front & flowers to the back. The base of the egg is decorated with a black & gold with the inscription St Petersburg 1997 & the initials ONB.
Traditionally the eggs were given on New Years Day, Birthdays & Easter Day. Faberge took the art of decorative eggs to a different level for Royalty but us lesser mortals had to settle for wooden versions which in actual fact were the originals.
The Russian revolution ended the egg tradition but it was revived in the 1980's.
This would make a perfect Easter Present.
Condition Very Good, small scratch to dark green background.
