The flowers are arranged in a geometric pyramid or sunburst pattern, typical of Baroque still lifes, almost entirely filling the central space.

The background is completely dark, a technical choice derived from Caravaggism, which serves to eliminate the surrounding space and bring out the vivid colors of the petals.
