Buchanan and Laing (Prima Finds)

Description

Circa 1890, an English Neo Gothic, late Victorian good size book slide. Made from Coromandel, it has a rich colour and patina. The arch top ends are decorated with good gauge brass, which is chased and has the addition of dome top studs, the central flower motif was silvered originally and still is evident but has worn slightly over the years.

CONDITION is everything with these pieces, this one has good hinges, the end plates standing upright when lifted. The slide is tight and functioning as designed, there is no sloppiness nor play in the construction. The polish is bright the age and patina are evident and honest, it hasn't had a hard life and nor has it been over restored as is often the case.

Size: when open it extends to 19 1/2 inches , closed it is 13 3/4 inches. The base is 5 3/8th inches wide. The end plate stands on the internal height at 4 3/4 inches overall.
