Description

This is an attractive large Vintage Sterling Silver Heart Locket on a long Sterling Silver chain. The locket is engraved with scrolling leaves on the front and plain on the back. It opens to reveal space for two small photographs, one in each half.

The locket is 3.6cm / 1.4ins across and 3.9cm / 1.5ins from top to bottom. The chain is 60cm / 24ins long. The locket and chain together weigh in at a very respectable 26.7g / 0.94oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The locket was made in Birmingham by long established jewellers Nathan Brothers in 1976. Founded in 1902, the firm had premises in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter and in London's prestigious Hatton Garden district. They specialised in jewellery but also made small silver items for personal use such as cigarette cases and match book holders. The firm ceased trading in the early 1980s.

Condition is very good, with just the regular superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 45 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The hallmarks on the bacxk of the locket are small but clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter B for 1976 and the N Bs makers' mark for Nathan Brothers. The chain is also hallmarked on the flat ring next to the clasp with the lion passant, the date letter C for 1977 and the N Bs makers' mark.
