Description

This is an ornate late Victorian Silver Plate Sifter Spoon. The spoon has a pierced shell bowl and a curving stem decorated with ivy leaves. Ivy was seem as a symbol of fidelity and tenacity and wedding gifts were often ivy decorated. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

There is no makers' mark on the spoon so we cannot say who manufactured it but it is a high quality silver plate piece and has a registered design number of 172581 on the underside of the stem, which confirms that it is British and dates the original design to 1891.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no plate loss and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The sifter spoon is 15cm / 5.9ins long and 5.2cm / 2ins across the bowl. It weighs 46.4g / 1.6oz.
