Description

Here we have a handsome Set of George V 9ct Gold Cuff Links from the 1920s. The cuff links are oval with chased foliate decoration in the upper half of each plate. Each pair is chain linked. They come supplied in a modern gift box.

The cuff links were made in Birmingham by G.H. Johnstone & Co and date to 1923. Founded by George Hope Johnstone in around 1876, the firm operated from premises in Northampton Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Their distinctive monogram mark is most commonly seen on cuff links in either gold or silver although they did produce other items. Johnstone died in 1907 but the company remained in business until around the mid-1920s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the chains and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each plate is 1.7cm by 1.1cm and each pair is 2.4cm long. The set weighs in at 3.4g of solid 9ct gold.

The hallmarks, on the undersides of the plates, are nice and clear to read. They the 9 and .375 stamps for 9ct gold, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham the date letter y for 1923 and the G J monogram makers' mark for G.H. Johnstone & Co.
