Description

This is a top quality Early 20th Century Silver Plate 4 Piece Tea & Coffee Set. The set is barge shaped with part reeded bodies and each piece stands on four bun feet. The set is family sized with a 2.25 pint capacity teapot and a 2.5 pint capacity coffee pot along with a large sugar bowl and cream jug.

The set was made in Sheffield by Walker & Hall and dates to around the 1910s to 1930s. Walker & Hall are one of the great names of English silverware for both electroplating and Sterling Silver. The firm was founded by George Walker in 1845 with Henry Hall joining in 1853 to form Walker & Hall. Hugely successful and very highly regarded they remained in business until they were merged with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The teapot has a capacity of 2.25pints / 1,278ml. It is 26cm from spout to handle, 12cm across the body and 14.5cm high. The coffee pot has a capacity of 2.5pints / 1,420ml. It is 23cm from spout to handle, 10.7cm across the body and 23cm high. The cream jug is 14cm from lip to handle, 7.6cm across the body and 10cm high. The sugar bowl is 19.2cm from handle to handle, 9cm across the body and 11cm high. All together the four piece set weighs in at 2.62kg / 92.4oz.

Each piece is stamped on the underside with WALKER & HALL, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND and the famous W & H pennant logo for Walker & Hall. All four pieces have the product number 1680, showing they are a genuine set of four.
