Description

This is a stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Salt Spoon. The spoon has a circular bowl and a stepped stem with a deep central groove on both sides. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The salt spoon was made in Birmingham by Adie Brothers Ltd and dates to 1932. The firm was founded in 1906 when two established Birmingham silversmiths, McKewan & Adie and E.S. Barnsley & Co, were merged under the leadership of Percy Adie to form Adie Brothers Ltd. The company was very successful and produced a wide range of silverware until the 1960s when they were absorbed into British Silverware.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salt spoon is 5.8cm / 2.3ins long and weighs in at 5.2g / 0.18oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the back of the bowl, are slightly rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter H for 1932 and the distinctive A Bros Ld makers' mark for Adie Brothers Ltd.
