Description

This is a good quality pair of Silver Plated Asparagus Tongs from the interwar years. The tongs are in the scissor style with the broad ribbed ends for holding the spears of asparagus. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The tongs are made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths and electroplaters Cooper Brothers & Sons and date to around the 1920s/30s. Founded in 1866 by Thomas & John Cooper, they were joined by their sons in the 1880s. A hugely successful firm, they are best known for their good quality cutlery and flatware.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and no significant plate loss. The scissor action is nice and smooth. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The asparagus tongs are 22cm / 8.6ins long, 4.6cm / 1.8ins across the broad heads of the tongs and weigh in at 129.8g / 4.6oz.

The handles are both marked, with one stamped Made In England, EP for silver plate, C Bros for Cooper Brothers & Sons and S for Sheffield. The other is stamped Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd, Sheffield, England.
