Large Pair Vintage Wing Back Chairs

Description
In GeneralA stylish pair of large 18th Century style vintage wing-back armchairs in very soft green leather. The buttoned backs and seats, shaped wings and outscroll arms are upholstered in close nailed green leather, on acanthus leaf carved cabriole front legs. The edges of the chair have been studded using gun metal coloured studs. These chairs are large and extremely comfortable.
A wing-back chair is an easy chair or club chair with 'wings' attached to the back of the chair, typically stretching down to the arm rest. The wing design was to shield the sitter from drafts and to trap heat from a nearby fireplace. They were introduced in England during the 1600s and the basic design has remained unchanged since. They did not become popular until the 1720s.

Maker
Not known.
Year
20th Century.
Material
Very soft green comfortable leather on a wooden frame with mahogany carved cabriole legs.
Condition
In good overall condition with no leather loss, tears, cracks or restoration. The leather is thick with a very soft almost glove leather texture - this type of soft leather is prone to marking over time. There are extensive surface marks to the leather from use. There are 4 significant long surface marks in the leather to the back of one of the chairs and extensive surface marks to the inside of the arms. There are pale marks to the rear of each of the wing-backs. There is a small tear to one of the base covers and the base cover of the other chair has been covered on the edge with masking tape suggesting that it has been torn.
One of the buttons on the back of one of chair B has popped forward but is still insitu. A block on the side of one of the nearest carved legs on chair B is missing so the leg looks slimmer on one side albeit still very sturdy.
The "time worn" patina of this very soft leather, however, adds to the overall appeal of these stylish, very comfortable, large chairs. Please see photographs.
