Description

A complete volume set of five, leather-bound "The National Portrait Gallery" by William Jerdan (1782-1869).

Jerdan was a journalist who settled in London in 1806, where he wrote prolifically on politics and travel, and where he worked on various newspapers. He became editor of the high Tory Sun newspaper between 1813-17 and established the Literary Gazette in 1817. He also published numerous other works, wrote perodically for Fraser's Magazine and took an active part in the Royal Literary Fund.

The books explore the "Illustrious and Eminent Personages of the Nineteenth Century" featured in The National Portrait Gallery and includes memoirs.

The set are leather-bound and in fine condition and would make for an excellent conversation piece, or attractive feature on any shelf but particularly in a study or library.
