Description

A wonderfully impressive cast bronze of French General, Marshall of France, Ferdinand Foch (1851 - 1929).

This stunning sculpture features General Foch in a commanding position on horseback. Foch was largely recognised as 'Supreme Allied Commander' on the Western Front during WWI in 1918, successfully coordinating the French, American and British efforts against the German offensive.

The piece is signed by renowned French Sculpture Georges Malissard (1877 - 1942), who had a keen affiliation with the equestrian world, riding every morning at the renowned Howlett's Stables in Neuilly and regularly attending hunting meets. He consequently had a brilliant eye for detail and proportion when sculpting working breeds or thoroughbreds, and it is captured in this piece superbly.

The piece is dates 1919, being commissioned just one year after Marshal Foch's efforts during WWI. A significant piece, which encapsulates a fantastic crossover of both artist and subject.
