Gold pair cased pocket watch, London, 1797

Description
John JardinLondon, 1797
Gold pair cases, 54 mm.
Cylinder movement
A fine late 18th century London cylinder movement, in heavy gold cases.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock. Diamond endstone, four round pillars, silver regulator disk and clean blued screws. Signed (Jno. Jardin, London) and numbered (1605).
The movement is protected by a removable gilt dustcap, signed and numbered as the movement.
This movement is in exceptional condition, and is running well.
DIAL : Good white enamel dial in almost perfect condition, with just one small chip on the edge at 9.
INNER CASE : 22ct gold, with nice clear London hallmarks for 1797, maker's mark IW. In good condition with some light bruises to the back and a scratch at 9. The bow and stem are original and have not been reattached.
The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome bull's eye crystal is also fine.
OUTER CASE : 22ct. gold pair case with clear matching hallmarks to the inner. In good condition throughout with just a few light bruises on the back. Nice hidden hinge.
The catch, catch button and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
There are three screw holes on the inside rim of the case, which probably originally held a spring to lift the bezel when the case was opened. This steel spring is now absent.
The gold cases are quite substantial, with a total gold weight of 66 gms., excluding crystal.
John Jardin is listed at three different City of London addresses (all very close together), between 1777 and 1804,.
