Description

Mid 19th.c. Biedermeier style walnut secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1840. Useful narrow size, just 35½" wide at the cornice. Open the fall to form a good sized desk (height 32") with a green leather writing surface, held steady on curving brass brackets. Fitted interior with an open bookshelf plus five small drawers with cherrywood fronts and brass knobs, and an open pigeon hole. With a frieze drawer above the bureau and three more drawers below. Highly figured walnut veneers arranged in a symmetrical pattern across the fall and drawer fronts to striking effect. Original pierced brass escutcheons featuring swans and a wheat sheaf. Walnut veneered sides and plinth. Raised on the original shaped bracket feet. Oak drawer linings and back panel. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Note the original locks, key supplied.
