Description

Very handsome mid 19th.c. drumhead longcase clock, probably Scottish c.1840. Mahogany case, the circular hood with a shaped pediment, a gilded and moulded bezel and unusual carved scrolling acanthus leaf detail. Tapering case with a long arched door featuring a fine elaborately pierced panel behind glass and backed with silk. Moulded base with rounded corners and an angled crossbanded apron on low bun feet. White enamelled 13″ diameter face with inked chapter ring and separate dials for the seconds and date. Brass works striking the hours on a bell. Note the pierced vents at the sides of the hood to better allow the sound of the bell to be heard. Original brass pendulum and iron weights. Excellent condition, the case has been cleaned and polished in our workshops. Works have been cleaned and overhauled and are sold with a 12 month guarantee.
