Description

Unusual late 19th.c. Anglo - Chinese marble top urn stand or side table c.1890. Square top featuring a shaped rose marble insert. Frame in dense hardwood timber (possibly zitan) with beautifully carved and pierced frieze of scrolling acanthus forms to all four sides. Further carving to the frame and legs which are of traditional Chinese form but with European decoration. Legs are joined with a useful second shelf which features two small drawers hidden in the simple decorated apron below, a feature we have never come across before. Old cracks to the marble, otherwise very good condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
