'Famous Scenes In Japan’ by photographer Kozaburo Tamamura (1856-1923) c.1890. A remarkable album of Meiji period photographic views of Japan featuring 60 hand tinted collotype images of the people, landscape and architecture of the country, each titled and captioned in English. Lavishly produced for a Western audience with double leaf 15”x12” pages between silk brocade covers with a pattern of chrysanthemums and cranes in flight, and purple tassel ties. Some wear to the covers and creases to the last page but the binding remains strong and all the images are beautifully preserved.
