Description

Delightful little mid 19th.c. open armchair by the acclaimed English furnishers C.Hindley & Sons of London c.1840. Mahogany frame with bobbin turned backrest, arm supports and front legs. Webbed seat, upholstered arms and loose cushion. Raised on the original brass castors, each marked for C.Hindley & Sons. Stamped with the serial number 05641 on the underside of the frame. There is old repair to the right hand arm support, otherwise very good original condition, ready for reupholstey, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Charles Hindley & Sons were prominent during the 19th century as a high end furniture makers and decorators with a Royal Warrant and a premises on Oxford St. They exhibited several pieces of furniture at the 1851 Great Exhibition including a ‘Lounging chair and easy chair’.
