Description

Rare 19th.c. ‘Long John Silver’ style prosthetic leg. Very simple design and construction, the main body cut from a single turned block of timber with a short turned peg leg fitted below a brass collar. Leather hoops attached to the longer outside stirrup to hold it in place with a waist belt and a second lower strap. A metal plate has also been fitted to prevent wear. Presented as found with minor damage to the tip of the shorter stirrup and some old worm holes. Retaining portions of the original black paint finish at the base.
Dimensions: total length 38″, diameter 7″.
