Description

Mid 19th.c. French beidermeier style mahogany secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1860. Open the fall to reveal a large sloping desk (27½” minimum knee height below) with a leather writing surface. Particularly fine fitted interior with onle long drawer over an open bookshelf and five small stationery drawers plus two hidden compartments on sprung catches. With a long frieze drawer above the bureau and three larger drawers below plus a fifth drawer in the plinth. Original grey marble top with rounded front corners. Exceptionally well figured walnut veneers arranged in a beautiful symmetrical pattern across the front and sides and continued on the interior which also has fine satinwood inlays and gilded brass drawer knobs. Raised on shaped bracket feet to the front. Oak drawer sides throughout. Excellent colour and condition, note the original locks. Cleaned and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied.
