Mid 19th.c. French beidermeier style mahogany secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1860. Open the counter wieighted fall to reveal a large desk surface (29½” knee height below) and fitted interior with an open bookshelf and six small stationery drawers plus two hidden compartments on sprung catches. With a long frieze drawer above the bureau and a two door cupboard below fitted with a single shelf inside. Original grey marble top with rounded front corners. Highly figured flame mahogany veneers arranged in a beautiful symmetrical pattern across the fall and drawer fronts all within a moulded surround. Pale rosewood lined interior with inlaid stringing and turned bone knobs to the drawers, a shaped apron above the shelf and unusual inlaid sun motif at the back. Mahogany veneered sides and plinth, raised on crisp turned mahognay bun feet. Oak drawer linings throughout and oak lined interior to the cupboard. Some minor wear and quiet a bit of scuffing to the writing surface insert (could be replaced). Otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
