Description

Superb quality mid 19th.c. walnut writing table by the celebrated English cabinet makers C.Hindley & Sons c.1860. 48″ x 24″ top with a tooled leather writing surface within a burr walnut veneered surround and moulded edge over two slim drawers in the front. Symmetrically arranged burr walnut veneers to the drawer fronts repeated on the rear of the table. Turned and carved droppers below each corner. Raised on lovely twist carved column legs in walnut joined with a long turned and carved centre stretcher. With carved finials between the legs at the sides and beautiful scrolling acanthus feet with original brass castors recessed below. Hardwood groundwork and unusual cedar drawer bases. Clear maker’s stamp and serial number on the top of the left hand drawer front. Excellent colour and condition, fitted with a new leather skiver, cleaned and polished in our workshops.

Charles Hindley & Sons were prominent during the 19th century as a high end furniture makers and decorators with a Royal Warrant and a premises on Oxford St. They exhibited several pieces of furniture at the 1851 Great Exhibition.
