Description

Superb allegorical figure of 'Le Genie Humain' or Human Genius after the French sculptor Emile Pigault (1833-1915) c.1900. Very well cast in spelter as a Classically inspired winged angel. Chained to the ground at his ankle, he points to the sky as he contemplates the unknown (or Ad Ignotum as written on the pages by his resting hand which holds a feather quill). Titled and signed in the cast, stamped Made in France at the rear. Presented on the original marble plinth (10" x 9"). Very good condition.
