Description

Charming wooden cherub plus stand - early 20th century hand carved casting mould probably originating from France. She was once used as a template to create ornamental pieces. Moulds were wrapped in papier-mache, left to dry and then cut in half to release the wooden cast - hence the knife marks on the side of her body. The 2 parts were then joined together and painted or gilded.
Right foot missing. Length from head to foot 32 cm. Stand height 21 cm.
