Description

Two large tribal scrimshaw bone carvings,c1890. From the decoration they are most likely Indonesian, but could be Polynesian. The bone appears to be either Ox or cow bone and has taken on great colour/patina. The scrimshaw decoration is beautiful with lizards/crocodiles, geometric patterns and the top of the bone is decorated as a face. From the quality of the decoration they are clearly for ceremonial use and have a great tribal look. Both are in very good condition with no obvious defects.
