Description

Unusual early 20th century carved bone tribal staff /stick, c1900. From the quality of the carving it is most likely from the Yoruba tribal area and would be a prestige/ceremonial piece . The handle is smooth carved bone, the shaft comprises 4 large carved statues of tribal figures, the tip is metal. The carvings are all different, clearly hand carved, and are held together with hand forged bronze cuffs and wire. Condition is good with no obvious defects and the bone has taken on great colour/patina.
