Description

Stunning large early 19th century Indian bronze polychrome statue of the Hindu deity Ganesh, c1820. This is a quality example most probably from a temple and has formed part of our personal collection for more than 20 years. It is well cast, very heavy at 10kg, with applied gilt and multi coloured painted decoration. The detail is very fine with the face, head dress, fingers etc beautifully depicted.

There is applied stone decoration to highlight the necklace etc. The colour/patina is lovely with just the right amount of wear to the paint etc. Overall condition is very good with only minor age related wear, rubbing, Verdigris etc. There is a drilled hole in one hand presumably where the statue would have held something at some point.
