Description

Lovely early to mid-19th century swagger stick, c1840. The main body of the stick is blackthorn, which is widely used for walking sticks etc, particularly in Ireland. The end is a beautifully carved clenched fist holding what appears to be a smaller stick. The detail is amazing with even the fingernails picked out. There is a metal collar helping to secure the fist to the main stick. The wood has taken on great colour/patina following many years of use and handling. Overall condition is good in line with age and use, not sure if the item being held in the fist has a small loss on its tip, it is difficult to tell given how small it is, in any event it is very minor. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me if you would like to view the item or have any questions.
