Description

#AD196 19th c. Medical Antiques, Vintage Nursing collectible:

This is a very clean old antique pottery invalid or baby feeder. It stands about 2" high and is white with gold gilded, hand painted Victorian trim which is highly embellished. It is in very good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. There is some slight wearing of the gold gilt on the handle and long neck spout, where hands touched it to feed, but not on the beautiful and unusual painted gilt embellishment motif in center.

The Victorians nursed their family members at home. The local chemist or pharmacy would sell feeders to help serve their ill children and family members with beef and chicken broths, soups, and a flour and diluted milk mixture called "pap" which was highly popular for healing at the time.

It was found in the local Newton Abbot, Devon, England area out of a Devon house. A pair of 2 other vintage and rare ironstone ladie's spitoons or lady cuspidor pieces were found with it from the same family, seen also sold here. This is a beautiful old original 125 year old British medical or nursing antique is in wonderful condition. Interesting invalid feeders and pap boats are highly collectible.
