Ishmael Bronze Harold James Youngman (1886-1968)

Harold James Youngman was born in Bradford and studied at Plymouth School of Art, the Royal College of Art, completing his training in 1911 to 1912 and winning the Travelling Scholarship, and lastly at the Royal Academy Schools. He worked as chief assistant to William Goscombe John and taught at Hornsey School of Arts and Crafts. In 1914 he married Dorothy Wainwright who studied embroidery at the Royal School of Art Needlework and won gold medals for her work. During the First World War, Youngman served in the Honourable Artillery Company. He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Sculptors, Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. He published Modern British Sculptors in 1939.
