Victorian Perfume Bottle with Silver Top

Photos

Description

Seductive and elegant is this fluted glass and silver capped perfume bottle dating from the late Victorian era.

The glass has no cloudiness or condensation and is cut into attractive segments whilst the collar and hinged top are marked as English sterling silver. The other hallmarks that are present are unfortunately rubbed and thus indistinguishable. The interior of the cap is in gilt.

The parquetry ruled silver top sits ever so slightly warped on its collar but, nonetheless, this bottle epitomises beautiful and charismatic boudoir paraphernalia.

Throughout the ages perfume has been stored in bottles of varying shapes and sizes and indeed of many different materials. The ancient world used blown glass and alabaster whilst the Victorians favoured silver topped glass bottles such as this very example.
