Edwardian Crocodile Skin Handbag

Description

Beautifully proportioned, the fine quality crocodile skin handbag, having brass clasp and end fittings, with a tan suede interior, inner purse pocket with clasp and removable crocodile skin mirror.

Aside from a small tear to the handle and general wear to the piping the bag is in good condition, the brass fittings are functional and the crocodile skin beautifully worn softer, consummate with its age. The interior is essentially divided into four compartments, the mirror sitting in its own pocket.

A century ago the use of crocodile skin was omnipresent in the use of luxury and vintage luggage, suggesting exoticism. Species usable leather included the Common Crocodile, the Nile Crocodile, the Indian and Marsh Crocodile, and also some species of alligator.

This lovely handbag would have belonged to a rather well-to-do Edwardian lady where luxurious luggage and accessories were simply essential for those who moved in high circles.

Make the lady in your life happy this Christmas! (they all love bags).
