Pair of Glass & Gilt Apothecary Bottles

Photos

Description

Having good quality spherical glass stoppers over protruding lips and frosted necks, the bodies with lozenge gilt decoration interspersed with leaf and crescent moon and star motifs.

Without specific labels but ornate decoration, these bottles are hand painted with numbers 29. and 32. respectively to the undersides and stoppers and would have carried a multitude of various medical powders or liquids then filled into other smaller bottles given to patients.

The gilt decoration is rubbed in parts but there are no cracks, chips or restoration to the bodies or stoppers.

Unusual in terms of decoration, these bottles are extremely decorative and… just a little bit magical.
