Description

A Good Large 17th Century Desk Top Bible Box.
Measurements to follow.

A good early example of a rare and useful desk top BibleĀ  box. Probably Gloucestershire.
The front with decorative carving of mythical beasts and foliage, the sides with carving of lunette, half flower, issuing foliage and punch work.
A super, well figured top retaining original iron butterfly hinges opening to reveal an ample storage cavity with some later fitted shelves and small drawers.
The top back having two coin size slots cut corresponding with the drawers which suggest the item may have been used as a collection box or till.
All boards are original and in really good condition for age. The item has a pleasing, dark oak colour and patina throughout.

Some minor wear commensurate with its long life.

At some point a previous owner has adapted a small but deep early Victorian chest of 2 over 2 pine drawers to accommodate it.
They are clean with original stain finish, knobs and casters for ease of movement. Some minor wear commensurate with age.

These drawers are included in the sale price if the buyer wants them
