Portrait of a French Naval Officer, Vice Admiral Thomasset

This is a large painting oil on canvas, it is presented as an Oval in a superb Rectangular carved gilt Frame
The subject is Vice Admiral Thomasset, in French Naval Dress Uniform, a man of good looks wearing his medals proudly in an informal pose

Vice Admiral Thomasset was the Flag Officer of Dévastation from 1st of August 1882 until 14th of November 1882
There is some information on the subject on the back of the painting which tells of his wife and other ancestry, also on the back at the bottom of the frame, there is a newspaper cutting fro 1817, it is difficult to read but it refers to our handsome officer.
The Painting is offered in very good (probably restored) condition a wonderfully executed piece
The frame is 39” high, 24” wide, the Oval is 29” high
