Description

This rare pair of 17th-century, possibly earlier, knight’s stirrups is Continental Spanish/Portuguese in style. They are hand-forged stirrups, reinforced at the front, the sides and the bottom of the wooden base with steel straps mounted in a heavy band with a suspension loop. The interior is fitted with the original leather lining. These armoured stirrups supported and gave stability to the rider and also crucially protected the feet in battle.

CONDITION: The stirrups are in VERY good condition considering their age. They do have clear dents and original repairs (to the wooden soles), but that is to be expected from 16th-century armour that most certainly would have seen and survived combat action.
