Description

A substantial late 19th century solid oak side chair, finely carved in the Renaissance Revival style. The shaped backrest embellished with bold scrollwork, fan cresting and detailed foliate carving, flanked by wonderful turned acorn finials — a motif often used during this era to represent growth, potential and strength.

The back panel and seat are upholstered in deep red velvet, edged with original braid trim, all raised on turned and carved front legs with thick outswept block legs to the rear.

Reassuringly heavy and rich in detail and presence, this is a versatile side chair that would work equally well as a decorative hall chair or occasional bedroom seat, but it’s particularly well suited as a unique desk chair in a characterful study or home office.

Presented in very good antique condition with a warm aged patina and light surface wear. Structurally solid, beautifully clean and ready to place in the home.
