Description

A truly rare piece of furniture dating to the Stuart period, circa 1690, this country made oak desk is a fabulous work of craftsmanship. Lovingly restored while maintaining the piece’s original charm, this bureau features no less than 5 hidden drawers!

The fall front desk opens to reveal a well fitted pigeon hole interior with 5 visible drawers and 5 hidden drawers which have all been put back into operational use. The two outer internal drawers pull all the way out allowing a piece of wood to the side of each to be pressed which releases the secret drawer on each side. Inside the lower storage compartment in the desk, a secret panel lifts to reveal one hidden drawer which when moved reveals two further hidden drawers. This is all above three large, smooth running graduated drawers.

Very good condition, all structurally in good order with lots of charming aged surface wear and patina.

English, circa 1690.
