Description

Circa 1820, good Dutch bombe shaped oak bureau. The classic bombe shaped flap has a very stylish open fretwork escutcheon. It opens to reveal an unusual combination inside of a well in the centre, a tambour fronted cupboard containing a single drawer, and various pigeon holes and drawers with shaped fronts. There are 2 large brass strap hinges holding the flap in position and beneath this instead of lopers there are 2 drawers which carry the weight of the flap. Beneath this there is a combination of 3 concave and convex drawers. The escutcheons and the handles are all similar with open fretwork. There are 2 large proud pilasters on the facings with a flat section on the side following the shape and form of the drawers on the front. Beneath the bottom drawer there is a deep shaped apron. The whole piece stands on stylish carved front legs with ball and claw feet. The bureau is a good size with excellent colour and condition.

Size 112cm high x 115cm wide x 53cm deep.
