Description

Circa 1800. Magnificent marquetry inlaid Dutch bureau bookcase. Surmounted by an arched cornice with centrally foliate carved crest, the two shaped door with elaborate marquetry decoration in exotic woods including neoclassical urns, flowers, and birds. The inside of the doors with further panels of marquetry opening to the interior with bookshelves and marquetry-inlaid drawers to the base. The bureau with elaborate matching marquetry inlay to the flap and with rococo brass escutcheon. The interior with stepped drawers, pigeonholes, secret compartments and marquetry inlaid writing flap. With one shallow frieze drawer above two short drawers and two bombe-front drawers all in marquetry with Rococo brass hardware and flanked by canted bombe corners, all above a short marquetry skirt supported on deeply carved ball and claw feet in front and rectangular rear supports.
