19th Century oil on canvas, portrait of a Beauceron dog, attributed to Karl-Fredrik Kiorboe (1799-1876), inscribed on stretcher. Canvas 12"x16" and with period frame
22" x 18"
Karl-Fredrik Kiorboe, Swedish painter born in Kristiansfeld, Southern Jutland. He studied animal anatomy with his uncle who was a vet. Had a military career with the Jamtland Horse Volunteer Corp. Left the military in 1840 and moved to Paris where he began his artistic career
painting equestrian and other animal paintings (predominantly dog, fox an deer}. He was later appointed Swedish court painter, and was a member of the Swedish Academy of artists.
