Description

This is a really lovely low comb-back windsor chair.
It’s signed on the back “SH” and has a relatively unusual and very attractive motif in the back splat. It’s a good Thames Valley chair and the turning on the leg dates it to 1835-1870 and that points to a West Wycombe maker Samuel Haws whose dates are right, although there are other SH candidates including Sam Harris although he’s a little later (I’m indebted to The English Regional Chair, by Bernard Cotton).

Its a beautiful, comfortable and capacious chair in excellent condition. It doesn’t wobble or creak and has lovely wear with good colour.

As good to look at as it is to sit in
