Description

A very fine 15ct gold, turquoise and (probably) silver brooch with a hunting theme. As you can see (I hope) from the images, this is a fox mask, set with turquoise eyes, encircled by a horseshoe and placed on a riding crop. The band and thong of the crop are in white metal which I have not tested but presume to be silver: why would you make such a precious thing and use a base metal?

It is clearly marked 15ct on the back of the horseshoe. 15ct is unique to Great Britain and was introduced in 1854 and was phased out by 1932 when the standard was abandoned. This dates the brooch to those 80 years: there is no date mark that I've found. It weighs 4.64g.

It would look wonderful on a jacket lapel, or in the middle of a fabulous scarf, or perhaps on the brim of a really amazing hat. A wonderful piece with many uses.
