Silver Gilt Scent Bottle In Case by George Brace



Description
A very fine Victorian silver gilt and cut ruby glass double ended scent bottle complete in its original case, hallmarked for silver maker George Brace.One end of the scent bottle has a sprung hinged cap by Austin's of Dublin, Ireland (1827-1891), engraved with a monogram 'LM' and the inside having a glazed aperture within which sits a small photograph of a gentleman in uniform. The other end has a screw cap engraved 'Lillie'.
The scent bottle sits within its original brass hinged fitted leather case, the silk lined interior with retailer name 'Martin & Co of Cheltenham' in gilt lettering. The case bears a label which reads 'Left me by Lillie Allen 1918'.
The bottle and case remain in a wholly untouched original condition, save the display label to the bottle.
PROVENANCE: Hylda and Lewis Gilbert, Sheldrake Place, London. Lewis Gilbert (d.2018), the celebrated film director, producer and screenwriter, best known for his 007 James Bond movies and Alfie.
