Description
A stunning early 17th century walnut carving of St. Leonard, Circa 1600St. Leonard is highly regarded by the French and is the patron Saint of prisoners. It is reputed that if one possesses a carving or image of Saint Leonard in their home, they will never be burgled! Obviously we can’t guarantee this!
Typically depicted with chains from his right hand to his right ankle and holding a book of the gospels in his left hand.
Condition - loss of right hand. Historic worm albeit treated and no longer active. Left portion of hair on head re-attached. Right portion of cape above right arm re-attached. Front plinth at feet re-attached.
