Rare 15thC English Antique Oak Carved Pew End

Photos

Description

A rare mid-15th Century English antique oak church pew end, circa 1450.
Norfolk/Suffolk borders in origin and originating from a church long since lost. Typically East Anglian with its poppy finial but rarer given the carved figure of a merman to the elbow.
Whilst we cannot disclose the private collection that this originated from, three similar examples from the same collection have appeared at various top-named auction houses during the last fours years, each realising large four-figure sums (one at close to £5k).
Despite the age-related wear to this piece, pew ends of this calibre are rare.
Condition – as per images.

Dimensions : Height approx 36"
