Dial Clock by Fugill Clifton The Mall Bristol

Photos

Description

A late Victorian mahogany cased fusee dial clock by Godfrey Watson Fugill of The Mall, Clifton, Bristol.

This superb wall clock has an eight day movement with a tapered back plate and 12” painted dial showing roman numerals and the maker’s name.

Little is known of Fugill as a clockmaker although the surname is an unusual one and seems to have clusters of the family line within Bristol and the Hull area. It is therefore possible that the clock was created for advertising a shop or a business with the Clifton area of Bristol. Nevertheless, a super clock with a lovely painted dial and very rare to find one with such specific associated geography. The Mall is a short road at the heart of Clifton’s retail centre in Bristol.
