Description

This stunning Arts & Craft inspired silver mounted mazer bowl was made in Birmingham in 1972 by the renowned Joseph Gloster. Of circular form, the inner bowl lined with silver. The rim with decorative pinched decorations. The raised girdle engraved with geometric patterns, the turned maple bowl raised on a narrow pedestal foot.

Mazer are shallow bowls without handles, used to be popular for royal and noble households as drinking vessels in medieval times. Although “mazer” stands for “maple wood”, they were made of various woods, and often decorated with rims of precious metals.
